Talking about Eleonora Barbieri Masini is equivalent to discussing the unique story of an intellectual passion, a research question translated into tireless action, a life dedicated to building a discipline. One can speak of her, without exaggeration or rhetoric, in terms of "beruf," in the Weberian sense of the term. Magda Cordell McHale described her as "the mother of futures studies," attributing much of the credit for the existence of the World Futures Studies Federation to her energy and enthusiasm.
