Abstract
The advent of the latest generation of technologies is transforming society. The imperative to pursue sustainable development goals and address major global emergencies is driving a rethinking of current industrial and economic models. Significant global actors, such as the United Nations, have long advocated for decisive actions to modify production models that are often highly polluting. Among these, the agri-food sector plays a crucial role, as it is vital for human survival and currently undergoing a profound changeover process. On one hand, the future of food encompasses innovative production horizons; on the other, the food of the future introduces unprecedented food scenarios in Western contexts. Understanding this dual dynamic is essential to effectively manage the impacts of this transition within the complex world of food production. This contribution aims to present the new paradigms of agri-food 4.0 systems, characterized by tools such as Artificial Intelligence, big data, and the Internet of Things, while offering further reflections on this topic.
