Abstract
Among the characteristic elements of Science Fiction, on one hand, there is the optimistic vision of the progress and potential of science and technology; on the other, there are the fears associated with the dark side of development and the doubt about its controllability. This paper offers a reflection on the imagined negativities but also on possible solutions through Sci-Fi novels from pioneers such as Jules Verne and Emilio Salgari to dystopian authors like George Orwell in 1984; cinema with works like I Am Legend, Outbreak by Wolfgang Petersen, Contagion by Steven Soderbergh, Paradise by Boris Kunz, and The Martian by Ridley Scott; the visual narrative Dystopian Future? No Thanks, or... it depends based on shots taken at the WaterWorld show in LA combines creativity and reflection on a critical global issue. It explores climate change impacts through Ecodystopia portraying submerged lands and floating cities. While highlighting environmental destruction, it offers hope through peace, seed recover and beauty appreciation to transform dystopia into utopia.
