About the Journal

“Future” is a word that never goes out of style; on the contrary, used and overused in every context and out of context—from political speeches to commercials—it has been stripped of all meaning. “Futuri,” on the other hand, refers to a different concept: the one associated with futures studies, the study of possible futures, a discipline that emerged in the 1960s and has spread throughout the world. “Futuri” is a word that exemplifies a concept: the idea that there is no predetermined destiny, no objective future in which we will live, but rather a vast array of possibilities, of “scenarios.” After being overrun and colonized by a single grand narrative, the future must be pluralized: we must liberate the potential and dormant “futures.” This is the mission of the Italian Institute for the Future, founded in 2013 as a think tank dedicated to the study of futures, which since 2014 has published Futuri, a biannual journal currently unique in the Italian landscape dedicated to futures studies.

The journal is published as open access, with the option to purchase or subscribe to the print edition.

There are no fees for publication or for the selection process. The costs of publishing are covered 100% by the IIF-Italian Institute for the Future Foundation.
