Abstract

In my speech, I underscore the transformative potential of renewable energy challenges faced by Italian power plants. I highlight the exponential rise in solar rooftops, driven by incentives since 2007, now comprising 500,000 of the 700,000 energy-supplying meters. Reflecting on global demographic shifts and changing lifestyles, I argue that reduced energy demand aligns with evolving societal norms. Emphasizing the importance of sustainable urban development, I advocate for initiatives like Legambiente's campaigns against waste, which have already demonstrated a 10% reduction in unnecessary energy consumption. I conclude by urging Italy to implement a comprehensive plan for energy-efficient urban revitalization, leveraging existing technologies and fostering a transition towards nearly zero-energy cities.
