Abstract
Databases are models, abstractions derived from collected data about a given phenomenon, which subsequently allow scientists, through data analysis algorithms, to identify associations, correlations, causal relationships, and macro-regularities. We are facing a technological process that should make a scientist's work even more efficient by increasing the probability of reaching the scientific truth of the phenomena under study: but is it really so? What does this process entail and what critical considerations does it raise?
