Abstract
The author, participating in the "Italy 2050" conference, reflects on the current absence of genuine politics in the Italian and Western landscape. He analyzes the role of politics in the processes of prevention, planning, and prescription of actions needed to address future challenges. He emphasizes the need to move from mere diagnosis to seeking concrete solutions and criticizes the increasing capture of politics by the economy and elites, at the expense of representation and the long term. He concludes by highlighting the danger of growing inequalities, emphasizing the importance of recentering the role of politics in building a sustainable future.
