Abstract

In the world, over 15,000 hospitals and humanitarian centers lack adequate biomedical equipment. One billion people in emerging countries and 100 million in industrialized ones cannot afford any prosthetics. However, there is the possibility of creating technologically less advanced but equally safe variants of these technologies that can reach a global user base due to their very low price, thanks to an open-source approach.
