Abstract
Federica Mogherini's recent appointment as the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy occurs amidst a complex geopolitical landscape. The role, established by the Lisbon Treaty, involves balancing national interests with supranational needs. The High Representative guides the EU's foreign policy agenda and executes Council mandates. Additionally, EU-China relations are primarily economic, with mutual interests reflected in agreements like the EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda. However, potential conflicts, such as the TTIP, may arise. Nonetheless, EU-China bilateral relations remain crucial for European foreign policy, requiring coherent strategies to assert the EU's influence.
