Abstract

Faced with the crisis of traditional forms of popular engagement, in recent years numerous experiments have sought to "graft" direct democracy practices into the representative system, particularly through the use of digital technologies. To analyze the possible directions in which the relationship between democracy and digital communication technologies in politics may evolve, it can be useful to resort to the scenario method to explore the possible futures of Western political communities by 2040.
