Abstract
The article discusses the role and evolution of libraries as centers of knowledge and cultural dissemination, addressing the challenge of modernity and competition with other media. Divided into three sections, it describes the current situation of Italian libraries, highlighting critical issues and resilience, and compares them with Anglo-Saxon experiences. It emphasizes the crucial role of libraries in facilitating access to information and preserving cultural heritage. It then proposes a plan to enhance Neapolitan libraries, suggesting strategies for modernization, integration with digital and cultural services, and the creation of innovative spaces. Finally, it promotes a model of "social innovation" based on the efficient use of existing resources and cooperation between entities, inspired by successes such as the "Idea Store".
