Abstract
Mike Tyson's quote succinctly captures the recent fate of Western governing parties amidst the populist wave. Stunned by their downfall, they either hope the populists hang themselves with enough rope or invest vast fortunes, like Blair, to counter them. However, such actions inadvertently fuel populist sentiments. This phenomenon, characterized by Brexit, Trump's election, and Renzi's referendum failure, signals not a revolution but a rebellion against the liberal order, actively supported by Putin and, seemingly, Trump. With Italy's growing Euroscepticism and populist movements gaining ground, the establishment faces an unprecedented challenge.
