Abstract
The 2017 Future of Life Institute's plea to ban lethal autonomous weapons sparked global debate. PAX's 2019 report scrutinized tech companies involved in potential autonomous weapons development, revealing ethical and security issues. Internal protests at Google and Microsoft over military contracts underscored technology's dual-use nature. Key players like IBM, Amazon, and Chinese tech giants are engaged in military-related projects, blurring civilian-military boundaries. PAX advised private firms to adhere to ethical guidelines, ensure transparency, and foster employee awareness to mitigate risks associated with AI and autonomous weapons development.
