Abstract
The future survival of metropolitan cities will depend on their ability to confront the "danger of the improbable and the uncertain." While the action of designing refers to that logical-rational paradigm that believes in predicting the future through causal connections with past events, the proper function of "programming" requires the peculiar ability of complex systems to self-regulate and dynamically self-adapt to changes.
